The article presents the results of an analysis of media representation of sports in the regional media discourse of Novgorod Oblast. Its relevance stems from both the examination of the overall development of regional media and the specific analysis of how sports events are reflected in the regional media field to address social objectives aimed at increasing population engagement in the sports life of the Russian Federation constituent entity. Drawing on four media texts targeted at specific tasks – popularizing the sports achievements of Novgorod residents at all-Russian and international levels; promoting sports as a driver for supporting public values; and advancing the oblast as one of the country's key sports centers – the study establishes how particular characteristics of media texts shape media representation. Employing the “Core and Shells” model, the author identifies patterns in the use of media text parameters such as texture, code, and tone. The analysis reveals that regional media representation of sports is oriented toward both internal and external audiences, situationally emphasizing distinct patterns for each. At the same time, these representation parameters enhance emotionality, confer officiality and patriotic coloring on the materials, and introduce personal and emotional dimensions, collectively fostering regional identity.
