This article considers the phraseological school concept. The criteria, according to which the formation and activities of a phraseological school can be considered, are highlighted. Historical, geographical, personal, academic and theoretical aspects of the phraseological school concept are described. The activities of the Novgorod Phraseological School, its history, main works of its prominent representatives, significant theoretical provisions, publications and conferences organized by the school. Special attention is paid to the personality of the school’s founder, Grand PhD in Philological Sciences, Professor V. P. Zhukov. The overview of his activities includes a description of both V. P. Zhukov’s well-known, recognized works, and publications less accessible for today, but still important for understanding the scientist’s theoretical views. A brief description of such theoretical ideas important for V. P. Zhukov’s views as the phraseological application method, the semantic classification of the phraseological unit components and the classification of proverbs and sayings is given.
