The article deals with the issues of Vologda regional lexicography. The dictionaries published by Vologda State University at the beginning of the XXI century serve as the material for the analysis. These are the latest issues of the "Dictionary of Vologda dialects", dictionaries "Vologda word" and "Golden Placers", "Dictionary of Vologda Rezha Dialect". The author focuses on questions about the type of dictionaries, the selection of material for them, the form of representation of dialect units.

The vocabulary of folk dialects of the Vologda region was studied very productively. The first dictionary of the dialects of the inhabitants of the city of Veliky Ustyug was compiled at the end of the XIII century and was published in the journal "Living Antiquity". Modern Vologda residents have been carrying out lexicographic work up to the present time. Dictionaries published at the beginning of the XXI century have one object of description – the vocabulary and phraseology of the dialects of the Vologda region; more precisely, the dialects of the Vologda group of the Northern Russian dialects. The listed dictionaries combine both the surveyed area (central and eastern districts of the Vologda region), and equally convenient for the reader reproduction of illustrative material – simplified spelling, similar, with the observance of the style adopted as the basis, printing execution, etc. The analysis of dictionaries is based on their comparison, comparison and evaluation from the height of already completed tasks. These dictionaries are in demand and, judging by the cited reviews, are positively evaluated by specialists. All the described dictionaries reflect a certain stage in the development of the regional practice of compiling dictionaries. This stage has not yet been completed, as recently a powerful initiative movement has developed in the Vologda Region to compile dictionaries, dictionaries, and lists of local words.
