Verb univerbation as one of the modern derivational tendencies

Abstract

The article deals with the phenomenon of univerbation as a process and as a method of word formation in the modern Russian language. Analyzing different points of view on this phenomenon, the author reveals her understanding of univerbats as a set of derivatives of different structure, method of formation and morphological affiliation, one way or another folded on the basis of word combinations. In this case, not only the contraction of the form occurs, but also the condensation of the semantics of the generating word combination. The purpose of this article is to substantiate the phenomenon of verbal univerbation, to identify the features of the formation of verbal univerbats, to describe the main areas of their occurrence and functioning on the basis of modern Russian language material. The verbal univerbation is understood by the author as a formal and semantic contraction of a word combination into a one-word verb denomination. A distinctive feature of verbs formed in this way is the parallel functioning of the word combination, which served as the generating basis, and the derivative one-word denomination. As a result of the analysis of numerous examples drawn from the media, from television programs and from live speech, a tendency to increase univerbation as part of the general trend towards saving language efforts and language means, a high activity of this type of derivation, its distinctive features and areas of increased functioning are investigated. Not only structural-semantic, but also functional, stylistic features of contracted neologisms are revealed. Reflecting the processes of democratization of the Russian literary language, univerbation is actively spread in colloquial speech, professional communication, Internet communication, it is found in the speech of journalists, politicians, and in advertising. The specificity of verbal univerbats, verbalizing the whole situation in a contracted form, their correlation with important phenomena of social or social life, processes in the field of science, as well as with everyday situations that are relevant for live colloquial speech are revealed; their ability to fill in the language gaps, conciseness, expressiveness, and evaluativity are noted.
